A few days ago we witnessed Br Casmir and Anthony being installed as acolytes. It is the second of the two ministries the candidates to the priesthood in the Catholic Church receive. Last year these two scholastics were installed as lectors and now as they continue their formation they have taken another step. As our Provincial said in his homily those ministries which are given to the candidates to the priesthood highlight that what we do in the Church is always bigger then ourselves. For some people acolytes are for the distribution of the Holy Communion but as I keep reminding our brothers acolytes are called to serve the altar and as such they should be Eucharist experts. It means that the Eucharist should be the time they know each single action, gesture and word. For acolytes the Eucharist should be more familiar than their own home town. It doesn’t simply mean being professional but rather deeply committed and captivated by what is being celebrated during those sacred mysteries.
