Spring in Poland

It was a relaxing time I had with my brothers Oblates during the short stay in Melbourne. I also managed to repack my suitcases in order to be ready for the next big adventure. The last weekend saw me moving across the globe. For the first time I flew Emirates and I had a shock of my life when in Dubai I got upgraded to Business. First when I was asked to move out of the queue leading to the departure gate I thought it was a continuation of the problem I had with the excess luggage at the drop off counter at the Melbourne Airport. As I was exhausted after 15-hour-flight it didn’t hit me straight away what the nice girl at the gate meant. However when I realized what the fuss was all about I got shy to proceed to the boarding gate. I felt embarrassed at the idea of sitting in the big and comfy seat while the long line people was to walk passing me on the way to the Economy. Even with my brain working extremely slow I came up with a brilliant idea of letting everybody else to board the flight first and then me getting in as the last person. So when Business Class passengers were being called to board I pretended that it wasn’t for me. When the waiting area was empty I sneaked in praying very hard so that nobody could recognize me. I can understand Pope Francis choosing common transportation. At least I feel that I belong there and I can share the same inconveniences that the most human population faces. However my fears evaporated when I got to the Business Class Cabin where most of the people were couples with young children. I guess that due to only few people in Business that day Emirates decided to assist some customers from Economy by upgrading them. Well, that was very nice of them. I didn’t feel out of place, in fact I felt like on an excursion with Kindergarten. I must admit that a few hours in the big seat made a miracle as I arrived to Warsaw without symptoms of the cold I had before.
At the moment I am enjoying a few days with my folks. I hope I can survive the great affection of my two little nephews who followed me everywhere.
After 8 years in Australia it is the first time I am in Poland in spring. Although it is still an early spring but it is very warm. In Australia we don’t experience this explosion of life as we don’t have such extreme winters when vegetation simply stops. At the moment everything here is blooming. Watching the nature one can only think that plants don’t waste time but make most of the time for growth. They don’t waste the longer and warmer days but are growing at the full speed. I can’t help thinking that it is a remainder for us Catholics who are still in our Easter mood not to waste these great opportunities brought to us by Our Risen Lord to become holy people.

Fr. Daniel,
You were so pampered and completely spoilt. Heavenly blessings came your way. Continue enjoying your trip. Poland in spring looks beautiful. By the way your nephews are gorgeous, can you bring them back with you to Australia:)
